Law Firm Internet Marketing | The Google Pyramid

If you've been here reading any of these posts (and I know there aren't many of you here reading) you know that getting your law firm website ranked number one on Google is not easy. In fact, law firm internet marketing is much complicated than you could probably ever imagine. Except, now you'll be able to imagine it, because I'm going to explain it to you.

First, to get your legal website ranked high, you are going to have to do some serious work. And I'm not talking about a flurry of work followed by swimming in riches. I'm talking about sustained work. Day to day grinding type of work. It is tedious. It can be boring. But it will work, and you'll become a legal SEO expert in the meantime.

So, how does it work? If you read my post on backlinks and how they spur the attention Google gives your law firm website, then you know that the more backlinks you can get the better, and the better the backlinks are (i.e. the more Google juice your sites have) the faster your law firm site will climb to the top of the Google search rankings. All we do is set up a system to create more and more backlinks to your sites.

Here we go. It's what I like to call the Google pyramid. As the name implies, it is a pyramid of law firm internet marketing for your legal website. It starts with your law firm website, optimized for your keywords and set up to receive maximum effectiveness from Google.

Next, there is a second layer of blogs that will eventually link to your website. Right now I have 5 blogs in this layer. Each blog is a separate, but relevant topic to the website. And they are on three different blog platforms - blog.com, wordpress.com, and blogspot.com. This give you different links to your site.

Under that is a third layer of blogs referred to farm blogs in the search engine optimization world. These are junk blogs that are on topic to your practice, but are built solely for the purpose of creating links to your other blogs and to the other farm blogs, which will then link up to your second tier blogs, which will then link to your website. Over time each of these links will become more and more powerful and Google will like your website more and more.

Right now you might be thinking about all of the work it will take to do all of this. And you are right. It does take a lot of work. But there are easier ways to do this, and I'll tell you about them next time.

Until them, keep blogging, keep linking, and keep working on your law firm SEO.

So you are committed to this whole blogging thing, working hard to get your law firm website to number one on Google for your selected keywords, but you aren't seeing much progress yet. You aren't sure if you are doing everything you can to optimize your posts so you get as much Google love as possible. Well, it's possible, and likely, that you aren't. So, I figured I'd give you a few law firm internet marketing things to think about the next time you write and post to your law firm blog.

First things first, the title of your post should have your keyword in it somewhere. For example, look at this post. I am targeting, for now, "law firm website number one on Google." Because of that, I tried to work that into the title of my post.

If you are writing about criminal defense or DUI defense, it is okay to write "DUI Attorney | What to do if You are Stopped by the Cops." It tells the reader what you are and what the article is about. And, for whatever reason, the bar is a better break up than a dash - Google just likes it better. So, when you start your post, make the title interesting, but make sure your keywords are included.

Second, when you write your opening paragraph, insert your keyword into the paragraph, and make it bold. Like I did in this post (and most of my other posts). This again just tells Google what your post is about (it tells your readers too, but we don't care too much about them right now!) and restates what your post is about.

Third, as you write your post, you will work into your post several keywords that you want Google to find you for. For example, in a typical post like this I'd try to work in "law firm blog," "law firm website SEO," and maybe "law firm internet marketing blog,"

Once you are done with your post, go back and find these keywords and make them links to the home page of your blog and to two or three of your old posts (again, if you look at this post and my previous posts you'll see that I do this regularly.

This will tell Google what your site is about, will give votes to your older (and newer when you come back and add links later) posts, and will give you votes for the main site of your post. This is an easy way to create some backlinks for your law firm website and gain a little more credibility with Google.

So get started today and get your law firm website to number one in your industry!

Law Firm Internet Marketing | Backlinks Explained

If you've been reading this blog (and I know you haven't yet - no one is coming here yet because no one can find me - but truth be told I'm doing this less for you and more for me!) then you should at least have an idea of how law firm online marketing works and have a legal blog set up that is optimized to be seen, read and understood by Google. That is step number one.

But, I bet if you done that and you are looking around on google for your site it is no where to be found. If you haven't looked yet, you can do so very easily by typing into the google search toolbar: site: www.yourwebsiteaddress.com. When you hit search Google will pull up everything that has that web address in it, including your website. If you do that and nothing comes up, that means Google hasn't indexed your site yet, which means it isn't sure if you are real, fake, spam, or something else, so it is waiting a little bit to make sure you are legit.

Now, while you are waiting for your law firm website to be recognized by Google you are losing money. If the phone isn't ringing then you aren't making money, and that isn't good. So, obviously, you've got to get to work to get Google to recognize your website or blog so you can start working to get it up the search engine rankings.

And, believe it or not, doing that is very easy. All you need are a couple of backlinks. What are backlinks, you might be asking? Well, I'll tell you. Backlinks are essentially a vote for your site by another site. It is a link from one site to your law firm website. The more votes you have, the more Google and the other search engines like your site. And, the more relevant the keywords of the links are the more Google likes your site.

Not sure what I mean yet? Try this. This site is about law firm internet marketing. The link I've just created is a backlink from this posts specific address to the main address of this site. Google likes this because it tells the computer what the site is about - getting your law firm website to number one in Google. But it doesn't get much weight because it is essentially from the same website. So how do you get good backlinks to your law firm website so you can get indexed?

Articles.

That's right, articles. You can go and write articles, include links to your site, and when the article is posted Google will see that, see that the link is from an independent site (and that the link is good) and give you some street cred for that. And doing this is the easiest way to get indexed by Google quickly.

So where do you go to write these articles? There are three main places I go - goarticles.com, ezinearticles.com, and posturown.com. And where ever you go you have to write a unique article - Google hates duplicate content. And it needs to be on topic, relatively coherent, and at least 350 words. Just have one or two links in there back to your site and in no time Google will recognize your site and move you back up the ranks.

Hope you enjoyed this lesson on law firm website backlinks and getting your legal website indexed.

Law Firm Rankings This Week

I've decided that every week I'm going to let you know what my law firm rankings were for this week so you can track my progress and see that this stuff really does work. I plan on posting to this site once a week on Saturdays, just so you'll know when to find it. I was out of town this week so I didn't make it until today. So, without further adieu, here are my rankings for this week (and change from last week - you'll see that I went down a little on most - that just part of the game). I'm not going to tell you the city I'm in because I don't want everyone to know what I'm doing.

DUI lawyer - 37 (-12)
criminal attorney - 28 (-4)

Law Firm Internet Marketing | Call to Action Strength

I am a Seattle DUI attorney and Seattle criminal defense attorney. I spend a lot of my time in court. I spend a lot of my time talking to clients and investigating cases. And I spend a lot of time trying to make it so Google can find my criminal defense website and send people to me that look for the services I provide (otherwise known as law firm internet marketing).

And I've been pretty successful at all three. But, believe it or not, I haven't maximized the potential of my law firm website yet. To this point, all I've done is maximized it for search results from Google. So, when people search for Seattle DUI attorney in Google and everywhere else, I pop up. And people click on my link and come to my site. And then guess what happens? People leave and go somewhere else.

Why to they do this? Why don't they pick up the phone and call me right away? Honestly, because I don't give them much of a reason to. I don't have a strong enough "call to action" on my site to let people know what they need to do if they want to use my help. I've put a screenshot of my website below for you to take a look at. And what you should see from the very beginning is that although it looks like a pretty well put together site, there is nothing directing you anywhere, no next step to take easily. It just kind of leaves you hanging out there.

That is why I'm redoing a lot of the look and almost all of the text on the site. I have to make sure that while I am doing everything I can to get people to the site through Google and search engine optimization for my law firm website and all of that other stuff, I also need to get them to take that next step when they get to the site and call me.

If I am number on one Google for Seattle DUI attorney and I'm broke that doesn't do me much good does it?

So, while you are working hard to get your legal website or law firm internet marketing blog to number one on Google, remember that that is just one of three steps to making a boat load of money advertising your services on the internet. Step two is the call to action on your website, the thing that makes them take the next step and call you for an appointment. And step three is selling them on you once you get in the door (which is not a topic for this site necessarily but is one I may write a little bit on at some point).

So, keep blogging, keep using those good keywords, and keep linking to your site and your blog, and keep creating those backlinks for your law firm website. And make sure you've thought about how you are going to get the them to call you once you get there.
